Tee Time in Midcoast Maine: Local Courses & Coastal Views
If watching The Masters last week had you daydreaming about ocean breezes, lush fairways, and that perfect satisfying thwack of a well-hit drive—you’re in good company. Spring is here, and with it comes the return of golf season in Midcoast Maine.
Around here, our courses aren’t just places to play. They’re tucked into some of the most beautiful landscapes in New England—coastal cliffs, Camden hills, salt air, and wooded trails—and they each carry their own local charm and character. Whether you're chasing birdies, working on your short game, or just in it for the walk and the view, there’s something for everyone.
Here are a few of our favorite places to tee off this season:
Rockland Golf Club – Rockland, ME
A true local classic. This semi-private 18-hole course is set on gently rolling hills and offers sweeping views of Penobscot Bay. It’s walkable, well-maintained, and strikes the right balance between forgiving fairways and greens that’ll keep you honest. With three par-fives and five par-threes, it’s a layout that keeps the game interesting at every level.
Why you will love it: It’s laid-back, the pace is comfortable, and the views are pure Maine. Several years ago, Golf Advisor named it the #2 course in the state—and we get it. It’s also just a few minutes from downtown Rockland, so post-round fish tacos or a stroll through the galleries is always an option.
Samoset Resort Golf Club – Rockport, ME
This one’s iconic. Known as the “Pebble Beach of the East” by Golf Digest in 2023, Samoset is championship-level golf right on the Atlantic—with 14 holes offering ocean views. The course winds through seaside woods and coastal gardens, with contoured greens, strategic bunkers, and a dramatic seawall that gives it both challenge and cinematic beauty.
Originally opened in 1902 as a nine-hole course, it was redesigned as a full 18 in 1974 by Robert Elder. Over the years, other top architects including Jeffrey Cornish and Bradley Booth helped refine the layout—improving playability while preserving the course’s natural drama.
Why you will love it: It feels like a vacation—even if you live five minutes away. Whether you're entertaining clients, showing visiting friends the best of the Midcoast, or just soaking in a solo round with views you won’t find anywhere else, Samoset is pure magic.
Northport Golf Club – Northport, ME
This one’s a hidden treasure. A peaceful, public 9-hole course tucked between Camden and Belfast, Northport Golf Club is a go-to for casual rounds and relaxed afternoons. The par-36 layout is friendly for walkers, with alternate tees if you want to loop through for 18. There's also a driving range, chipping area, and two putting greens for pre-round practice or lunchtime tune-ups.
The club plays host to regular tournaments, from the Club Championship to fun member-guest days, and also supports great community events with local organizations.
Why you will love it: No pressure, all pleasure. Great for new golfers, social rounds, or an easy after-work loop—and perfectly positioned if you’re near Lincolnville, Bayside, or Belfast.
Goose River Golf Club – Rockport, ME
Goose River is a place locals whisper about with a smile. Nestled between Camden and Rockport, “The Goose” is an inviting, beautifully maintained 9-hole course with fast, elevated greens and stunning views of the Camden Hills. With multiple tee options, every round offers a fresh twist.
The course began as a dairy farm before Chet Cripps transformed it into a golf course in 1965. That history lingers—in the friendliness of the staff, the casual deck off the clubhouse, and the way locals linger long after the last putt drops.
Why you will love it: It’s got soul. Goose River isn’t flashy, but it's welcoming, and thoroughly Maine. Just a mile off Route 1, it’s the perfect place to slip away for a peaceful round that feels like a true escape.
Whether you are chasing a better handicap or just chasing the sun down the fairway, Midcoast Maine offers some of the most relaxed and scenic golf experiences around. And with spring underway, it’s the perfect time to dust off your clubs and explore what’s out there.
Even better? Many of these courses offer membership options and league play for all skill levels. It’s a great way to get involved in the community—and maybe make a few new golf buddies while you're at it.
