What We're Loving This Summer: From the Dwelling in Maine Team

What We’re Loving This Summer

A Midcoast Maine Roundup from the Dwelling in Maine Team

Maine summers are famously short—but we like to think that makes them even sweeter. July is the heart of the season, and here at Dwelling in Maine, we’re making the most of every golden hour. Whether we’re grabbing iced coffee between showings, picking blueberries in the backyard, or heading out on the water after work, these little rituals keep us grounded and grateful.

So we asked the team:
What’s something you’re loving this summer?
Here’s what they said—feel free to borrow our favorite local haunts, hiking spots, or homegrown habits for your own list!

☀️ Agent Favorites

🍦 Favorite Summer Treat:

[Chris & Sarah]:

"You can’t beat a Key Lime Pie ice pop from The Blue Chill.  It’s our go-to after a long day of showings"

[Samantha]:

"I love an iced drink from Zoot Coffee. Try an Italian Cream Soda for a refreshing sweet treat with lots of flavors to choose from."

🏖️ Favorite Place to Unwind:

[Chuck]:
"Enjoying the fresh air paddling around Clark Cove."

🧺 Go-To Picnic or Snack:

[Lynne]:

"McCloons Lobster Shack always has the best lobster roll! It’s a summer tradition to stop by."

🏡 Home Habit We're Loving:

[Chuck]:
"I’ve been spending early mornings with my dogs in the backyard. Great way to start my day."

🌿 Favorite Local Spot or Shop:

[Chris & Sarah]:
"Brooklin General Store always has the best Sunday brunch and grab and go sandwiches!  It’s a summer tradition to stop by."

[Casey]:

"Our family loves to stop by Gifford’s for ice cream on hot summer evenings. There’s an old forgotten dirt road going through many miles of woodland and farmland, and once it’s passable after mud season we know it’s time for ice cream and a country drive! We roll the windows down, listen to good music, and enjoy the scent of summer flowers rushing in with the wind.  Sometimes at Gifford’s we like to stay for a slightly competitive round of mini golf, complete with Maine themed obstacles and a giant moose. Then we enjoy a scoop of “Maine Wild Blueberry” ice cream on that country drive home, as we watch the fireflies light up the fields while the crickets chirp."

[Smantha]:

"The Belfast Rail Trail is my go-to spot for a nice walk. You can have a stroll through town and grab a meal on the water while you're at it - or you can opt for a longer walk and take the trail out of town to see the coastal sights. If you want a long day hike, you can even connect to the Hills to Sea Trail at the end of the Rail Trail!"

📚 Summer Read or Listen:

[Casey]:

"We homeschool year round but our summer’s are meant more for nature study and great literature! I love using local author Rae Chalmers who wrote “The Oxbow Island Gang” series, as a fun living book read to accompany summer science! For example, we’ll focus on one topic - such as frogs, and read the fun “living” book. Then we take our Handbook of Nature Study out on a walk, find some lovely examples to draw in our nature journals, and then compare both texts to study the lifecycle and attributes of the topic."
