Bath has a special kind of charm in December. The lights, the windows, the cold air that wakes you up a little as you walk between shops—it all feels very “small-town Maine at Christmas.”
This year, I took a slow day to browse, gather some home inspiration, and pick up a few gifts along the way. Here are the spots that I always seem to end up.
Maine Street Design
I started here, as usual. Their pieces always strike that perfect balance of classic and smart—nothing overly trendy, nothing overly precious. Just thoughtful design.
I visited right before their planned move up the road, and I’m already looking forward to seeing more of their custom furniture line in the new space.
It’s always one of my holiday stops. They carry things you simply don’t see everywhere else, and it’s the kind of store where you instantly start imagining how a room in your home could look or feel.
Country Farm Furniture
Three floors, endless textures, and truly some of the nicest people you’ll meet. Their style hits a sweet spot: not too coastal, not too modern, not too country. Just warm, comfortable pieces that fit beautifully in most Maine homes.
I didn’t buy anything this time—holiday season equals more gifting, less furniture hauling—but it remains one of my favorite places to get ideas.
Now You’re Cooking
My holiday kryptonite.
If there’s a new cookbook, a clever gadget, or a kitchen tool worth trying, it’s probably here. I love this store year-round, but in December I wander even slower.
And yes…I found a few gifts I’m excited to give, but I’ll keep those details quiet for now. It’s not Christmas yet.
Their wine and beer selection is always strong, and it’s a great stop for a hostess gift that feels thoughtful instead of last-minute.
A Few Local Stops That Make the Day Even Better
Bath Brewing Company
Great pub food with a relaxed vibe. I almost always end up with either a Reuben or fish and chips and a good dark beer. It’s exactly what you want on a chilly December day before wandering back out into the shops.
Café Crème
You really can’t go wrong here. I love a dark roast, and I’m a repeat offender when it comes to their peanut butter cookies. They’re lofty, they sparkle with crystallized sugar, and they’re one of my small Bath traditions. Perfect for the drive home.
Home for the Holidays, Maine Style
Bath makes holiday shopping feel unrushed and enjoyable—like a day out rather than a checklist. You can find meaningful gifts, inspiration for your home, and that familiar small-town Maine warmth that shows up so naturally this time of year.
If your December plans bring you to Bath, consider this your guide to a cozy, feel-good day of browsing, eating, and gathering ideas for the season ahead.
